Ludlow Avenue's business district and the streets ringing the University of Cincinnati campus mean constant stop-and-go, with pedestrians, cyclists and delivery vehicles all adding unpredictable braking to what would otherwise be a short commute. The hospital district nearby brings shift-change traffic at odd hours, more stop-and-go pressure on a neighborhood that was never built for heavy daily traffic in the first place.
We do brake work right where Clifton cars are parked, most often on the street, since driveways are less common here than in many Cincinnati neighborhoods. We just need a legal parking spot with safe room to work on the traffic side, and we bring pads, rotors, calipers, fluid and hardware to the car rather than asking you to find a way to get it to a shop.
Because so many Clifton vehicles are older and bought used, we also see a fair number of brake systems that were neglected by a previous owner, worn rotors covered by fresh-looking pads, or hardware that was never replaced at the last pad job. A proper inspection here often catches problems that a quick pad swap elsewhere would have missed.
Clifton's streets around Ludlow Avenue and the University of Cincinnati campus edge are dense with pedestrians, cyclists, delivery trucks and students crossing mid-block, which forces frequent, unpredictable braking on top of the neighborhood's already tight, hilly layout. The hospital district nearby adds shift-change traffic at all hours, and Clifton Avenue's grade toward Ludlow Avenue means real elevation change on a short stretch of road. Because so many Clifton cars are driven in short bursts, a few blocks to campus, a quick run to the hospital, a trip to Ludlow Avenue and back, brakes rarely get the sustained highway driving that helps burnish pads evenly, which contributes to uneven wear and squealing on cars that otherwise have plenty of life left in them.
Clifton has less private driveway space than many of the neighborhoods we cover, so most of our brake work here happens with the car legally parked on the street near Ludlow Avenue, Clifton Avenue, or the residential blocks around campus. We confirm the exact spot and check for safe working room on the traffic side before we come out. Where a driveway or small lot near a duplex is available, that works just as well.
